The Specification Inputs That Prevent Quote Mismatch
Most binding post RFQ problems come from missing interface information. A buyer sends a photo or a partial drawing, the supplier quotes something close, and the sample later fails because the real panel, plug, lug, or internal connection was not visible at the quotation stage.
The better method is to define the binding post as a small system.
Panel and Mounting Stack
Send the panel thickness, mounting hole, front clearance, rear clearance, washer stack, nut hardware, and terminal spacing. If the post is used in a pair, include the center-to-center distance and the expected cable or plug envelope.
Panel fit affects more than mounting. It controls whether the cap can turn, whether a spade lug can sit flat, whether the insulation shoulder isolates the metal body, and whether rear hardware can be assembled without forcing the part.
External Cable Interface
State which connection methods the equipment must support. A 5-way binding post may involve banana plugs, spade lugs, bare wire, pin connectors, or a combination of these. But the name “5-way” does not guarantee every plug or lug will fit well.
For banana plug use, send the plug sample or drawing if available. For spade lugs, send fork opening, lug thickness, and clearance around the cap. Rear Termination
The rear side often decides whether a binding post fits the equipment assembly. The internal connection may be a solder tab, threaded stud, nut and washer stack, wire connection, lug interface, or another custom structure.
Do not leave rear termination as “standard” unless a standard drawing is already approved. Send the available rear space, internal cable route, mating lug or wire method, and assembly order. If the project needs a different rear geometry, route it through OEM terminal development instead of forcing a catalog shape.
Material and Contact Zones
Binding posts commonly use brass or copper-family metal routes, but the final material should be tied to function, machining, plating, contact surface, and cost. Avoid approving material by appearance alone.
Mark the functional contact zones separately from appearance zones. A bright finish on the cap does not prove the contact surface is correct.
